Destin, Florida the World's Luckiest Fishing Village!
Destin has always been known as the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village for years. Just the other day I was on a private charter with Jason Hallmark of the Vengeance for a 10 hour trip. Leaving the dock 6:30 AM can make for a long day but well worth the effort as you can see from this photo.
We were able to catch Amber Jack, Scamp Grouper, King Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, Vermilion (Mingo) Snappers and Amberine. For those that do not know, the big one in the middle is a Blacktip Shark. We were also able to catch Red Snapper and Gag Grouper but since they were not in season we had to release them back unharmed.
A 10 hour trip will give you enough time to get out to the deeper water for the larger Amber Jacks and back….just be sure to bring enough food and water. The Amber Jack is a hard fighting fish that is relentless all the way to the surface so you will need something to drink and to eat while on the water.
You do not have to Be A Local in order to have fun like this. Just give Jason a call on the Vengeance and schedule your next fishing trip. Just be sure to plan ahead as his calendar can get full and you would not want to miss out on trip like this.
Just in case you want to become A Local, just search our entire Multiple Listing Service at Clark.BeALocalDestin.Com for your own condo, beach house or townhouse as it can be more affordable than you think.
Fishing on the Beach in Destin, Florida!
While fishing on the beach in Destin, Florida you can catch just about anything you want … from Pompano, Lady Fish, Jack Crevalles, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia to big Red Drums also known as Redfish …. Like the one I am holding here on the beach the other day.
It does not take much to get started, just a fishing rod, lead weights, hooks and a sand flea rake in order to get the bait. That’s right, sand fleas, also known as Mole Crabs. These are very easily harvested right in the surf where the waves brake onto the beach.
You only need to rake the sand in order to find them and the fish just love them….and I mean all fish love them!
So next time you on the beach you should try your hand at fishing. While you are here you are going to want to know how you can “Be A Local” by searching our entire Multiple Listing Service for condos and homes.

Fed Won’t Stop Goosing Economy
WASHINGTON – March 21, 2013 – Despite signs of an improving economy, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday that it will continue to pursue an easy-money policy aimed at holding down long-term interest rates and stimulating growth.
In a statement after a two-day meeting, the Fed said it will keep buying $85 billion a month in Treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities until the labor market improves substantially, echoing its statements since last fall.
The monthly purchases raise bond prices, which pushes down their yields and long-term interest rates broadly, cutting borrowing costs for consumers and businesses.

Okaloosa-Walton Ranks Third Nationally in Growth Rate
Okaloosa and Walton counties have been recognized as one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
The U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday released a list of the 10 fastest-growing metropolitan statistical areas. The Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin MSA, which takes in all of Okaloosa and Walton counties, ranked third.
Larry Sassano, interim president of Florida’s Great Northwest, said the ranking will be a great way to market the area as one that is vibrant and growing.
“That’s impressive,” Sassano said. “If you show that you have the third fastest-growing MSA in the country, that’s going to say something about the potential for growth for companies. Companies want to grow from a larger pool of potential employees.
“I think this is a good marketing tool for the region,” Sassano added. “Even though it’s really isolating it to two counties, it’s two counties in Northwest Florida. Anytime you can promote even one county, the other counties will have a positive impact as well.”
The Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin MSA had a population of 239,021 in July 2011. That grew to 247,665 by July 2012 for an increase of 3.6 percent. Only the Midland, Texas, and Clarksville, Tenn.-Ky., MSAs had higher growth rates, at 4.6 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively.
Sassano said one of the biggest factors companies consider when they are deciding where to operate or expand is the availability of a strong workforce. A growing population helps with that.
“The larger the population, the more opportunities employers have to select qualified employees,” Sassano said.
Local economist David Goetsch said part of the growth in Okaloosa and Walton counties during that time frame was because of the addition of a new battalion to the Army 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the continuing migration of retirees.
“Nobody’s growing very much because of the economy,” Goetsch said. “It’s good news for us, but we’re kind of one of the fastest growing in a very slow-growing economy.
“We’re leading a very slow pack,” he added.
Goetsch said he doesn’t expect the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin MSA to remain one of the fastest-growing areas for much longer.
“Even without sequestration, I wouldn’t expect it because you get the benefit of the 7th Special Forces once, and we’ve got that now,” Goetsch said. “The small amount that we typical grow out of retirements will continue, but that is small, and with sequestration that will probably even be slower.
“With sequestration we will probably lose some also. Not military, not retirees, but we’ll probably lose some defense personnel.”
